A POWERFUL PRAYER FOR THE TONGUE

LET THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH:

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the reminder that on the day of judgment we will give account for every careless word we speak. So let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, our Rock, and our Redeemer.

Let no corrupting talk come out of our mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fit the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. For by words we will be justified, and by our words, we will be condemned. Impress upon us the importance of our words as death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Teach us to restrain our words; that we may be wise, make us people of understanding. Set a guard, O Lord, over our mouths today and always; keep watch over the door of our lips!

Righteous Father helps us to recognize that when words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is wise. May we know from the same mouth come blessing and cursing, and speak wisely, in order that we can please You; as these things you abhor, may our words not defile us. Help us to train our tongues to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. Teach us to utter wisdom, and our tongues to speak justice.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
